Does the author have any advice for new writers?
Eric believes that you should write about what inspires you.
Be passionate about your work. Write about characters that readers can relate to and will care about.
Understand that writing is a process, which will include many rounds of rewrites to perfect. Most of all, just do it.
Take the writing process one step at a time, starting with that first draft and continuing to keep an open mind. You may
be surprised where your story takes you.
Does the author write an outline before writing the first draft?
Eric usually does not use outlines for flash fiction, which
are stories that are a thousand words or less. For longer stories, however, he always uses an outline for plot
development, key clues, and character placement. He does not let the outline limit his creative thinking though.
There have been many times that he has taken a story in a different direction than the original outline.
Which of the author’s stories is his favorite?
Almost every author will tell you that they cannot answer
this question, or they’ll give a snippy response like “my last one.” Eric will not dodge this question.
Although he likes all of his stories for many different reasons, Eric's all time favorite is
When My World Got Turned Upside Down. It’s interesting to note that readers are all across the board with regards to
which is their favorite.
